UN
mandate
Special Consultative Status with the United Nations, granted in 1995.
Founded in 1948, FIABCI is a global organization recognized as one of the most influential in the private real estate sector worldwide.
Operating as a non-profit entity, FIABCI is committed to making a meaningful impact on international real estate affairs—particularly through education, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of global professional standards.

Specific contribution to United Nations activities
FIABCI has been actively involved with the Real Estate Market Advisory Group of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). To implement the group’s principles at the local level, FIABCI organized events and activities that engaged governments, private entities, and industry experts in countries such as Brazil, France, Italy, Portugal, Ukraine, and several member states of the Arab League—with particularly successful outcomes in Ukraine.
Additionally, FIABCI participated in key meetings in Geneva, sponsoring presentations for members of the advisory group that explored the causes and consequences of the global real estate and financial crisis, as well as its impact on economic growth.
In December 2007, FIABCI hosted a dedicated seminar at the United Nations headquarters on the effects of the crisis.
Specific initiatives in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
FIABCI’s representative to the United Nations is an active member of the NGO Committee on Human Settlements, a group that continues to monitor and actively support the implementation of the UN-Habitat program to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
FIABCI is also a participant in the United Nations Global Compact, actively promoting awareness of the MDGs within the private sector.
In 2008, FIABCI collaborated specifically with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), providing guidance on rural planning issues for developing countries. That same year, it presented a documentary at the Eco-Film Festival during the World Congress in Amsterdam, highlighting the strategic relationship between sustainable water management and the real estate sector.

Engagements
FIABCI sponsored and helped coordinate a special session of the Forum on Sustainable Real Estate Markets, organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the German Federal Environment Agency in November 2010 in Dessau, Germany.
In addition, FIABCI took part in a special public session held in Brussels in December 2010, focused on how the private real estate sector and the United Nations can work together in response to the global financial crisis.
